Formerly known as the AirLiner. The slate enables you to control applications wirelessly, and as you use the pen to write on the slate’s surface your handwriting displays both on your computer screen and the interactive whiteboard or projection screen for the entire class to see.
How can you use it?
The SMART Slate connects wirelessly to your computer from up to 32 feet (10 m) away. On its own, the SMART Slate functions easily with a computer and projector. To further enhance whole-class, small-group and individual instruction, the SMART Slate seamlessly integrates with the SMART Board interactive whiteboard, SMART Podium and SMART Notebook software.
The SMART Slate can be used by the teacher and students to access the whiteboard without having to leave their seats.
SMART Slate can be used with any applications that are supported by the SMART Board.
All content areas and grade levels can benefit from use of the SMART Slate.
Why would you use it?
The SMART Slate brings new possibilities to your classroom by giving you and your students the freedom to interact with digital content from anywhere in the room.
Reach all the students in your classroom by handing them the slate at their desks and giving them the opportunity to solve problems or demonstrate their knowledge while their work is projected for the whole class to see. This is an added benefit for students with limited mobility, as the slate can be moved to where they sit.
PRO: The teacher is not locked into teaching from the front of the classroom.
PRO: Students with limited mobility can also use the interactive whiteboard.
PRO: Not *too* expensive - around $500.
CON: If the battery loses all of its charge, you can't recharge it.
